Paralyzed to popcorning!

What a lovely rainy morning! I thought I'd take the opportunity to tell you the story of Willy.
Willy is now 12 weeks, I got him when he was about 10 1/2 weeks. When he came to me he could not use his back legs, he had been bullied and beaten up by two other boars who had humped him, jumped on him and prevented him from eating.
If he wanted to move he would stumble and drag his back legs. He was very skinny and small for his age, especially in comparison to his brothers.
He was taken to the vet where I was told it could be a combination of scurvy and spine damage, which could potentially be permanent but time will tell. He is now on a supplement to stop the scurvy, along with daily massages and the occasional hydrotherapy to help aid the movement of his legs.
The improvement in Willy's condition has been miraculous. Instead of sitting there looking sorry for himself quiet as a mouse he is now bounding around, squeaking and popcorning. He is thoroughly enjoying being around the other guinea pigs, having a routine with regular fresh vegetables and run around time.

Guinea pig diet?

It would seem that Frazzle has exploded into a very large piggy... !
Weighed everybody today and Frazzle came out top at 1448g !!

I could just about fit him in ...

No more treats for you fat piggy!!

The guinea low down

So who is who?

Where to start. In flat number 1 we have Frazzle and Annie.

Frazzle
Gender: Male

Age: 2 years 2 months
Breed: Fuzzypig (I.e. I do not know!)
Colour: Black, white and tan.
Personality: Crazy! He has cooled down since living with his wife but he still zooms around his cage squeaking. He is big and cuddly cheeky little boy.

Annie
Gender: Female
Age: 1 year 8 months
Breed: Dutch
Colour: Chocolate and white
Personality: Very shy. But if you say the words 'Annniieeee, want a biccy?' she will run to the bars and stick her nose up ready for a treat. She's also a great cuddler and never does anything naughty! My little angel.

In flat number 2 is Doris and Tilly.


Doris
Gender: Female
Age: 5 1/2
Breed: Rex
Colour: Golden agouti?
Personality: Stubborn!! She is a little old lady stuck in her ways. She lies in her own poo if she's in a comfy bed. Who needs to get up to go to the toilet when you're comfy eh? She sleeps most of the time, but also enjoys tossing about a good toilet tube.



Tilly
Gender: Female
Age: 1 year
Breed: Abysinnian
Colour: White and black with a patch of tan on her eye
Personality: Another stubborn 'mare. She is a bit stroppy too, definitely not up for cuddles! But she likes to let you know when there's no more food in her bowl by screaming her head off.





Flat number 3: Terry and George.

Terry
Gender: Male
Age: 5
Breed: Sheltie crossbreed
Colour: Chocolate cream and white
Personality: An extremely laid back piggy. No noise seems to startle him and he enjoys a good head scratch, so much so that he purrs, lies down and stretches out his back legs.





George
Gender: Male
Age: 1 year
Breed: Dutch
Colour: Black and white
Personality: The naughtiest piggy alive. George will do anything to get attention and he'll badger Terry whenever he gets the chance. He may look cute but looks are decieving!!





Last but not least. A young single bachelor. Willy has only just joined the Guinea pig courtyard in the last week. He is not 100% well and is having extra care and attention until he settles.

Willy
Gender: Male
Age: 11 weeks
Breed: Peruvian possibly?
Colour: White, tan, agouti.
Personality: A very friendly guinea pig who is also inquisitive, enjoys smelling everything and is the first guinea pig to every give me licks! He has a strange love of wet food. Oh and who can ignore the fact that he's a total dude.. !

Guineas go live!

I was spending some time with my ickle pigs on the bed today and decided to put the webcam on.


With blanket in place I started recording. First up are the two boys Terry and George. These two are a handful sometimes so you'll notice me grab George/move him a couple times as he wanders off the blanket (No peeing on my bed thanks!)





The next two on spotlight were Frazzle and his wife Annie. You may hear me giggling a few times at around 2.50, this is because you'll notice frazzle will be going about his business then suddenly look at me, as if checking I'm not up to something. I think this is because earlier today I gave him a brush which he is now very suspicious of!!

Just feels like we're meeting for the first time..

Hello!!
So I thought I would introduce myself to those that don't know me.
I am Lizz (sometimes referred to as Lizzo)! 20 going on 21. An animal management degree student in my final two months of university! (eek!) Then I hope to find work in wildlife conservation, either directly or through working for a charity in fundraising etc.
This blog hopes to be a little piece of my life combined with interesting stories and facts about my beloved guinea pigs.
